Russia  Unveils  Its  ‘Hell Machine’  – New  Generation Mine Layer

Source : http://sputniknews.com

The International Military-Technical Forum ARMY-2015, which has recently wrapped up in the Moscow Region, continues to surprise armament aficionados as many of the weapons on offer have been revealed to the general public: one such piece of military equipment which was unveiled at its showground is Russia’s new multipurpose mine-laying vehicle.

Russia has unveiled a new multipurpose mine-laying vehicle.

The vehicle is designed to remotely scatter anti-personnel, anti-paratrooper and anti-tank clustered mines over terrain.

Named the UMZ-K, it differs from its predecessor, the UMZ layer, first of all in its wheeled chassis. Unlike the UMZ, which is mounted atop a ZIL-131B cargo truck chassis, the new system is based on that of a KamAZ-63501.

The KamAZ-63501 heavy utility truck is a member of the Mustang family and one of the largest trucks in the KamAZ range. It is entirely conventional in design, a renewed version of the previous 8x8 heavy utility truck with an increased payload capacity of 15,000 kg.

The platform of the truck sits six multiple payload rotary launchers with fixed elevation mechanisms. In battle order the launchers are set upwards. The tilt angle is 50 degrees, while its horizontal coverage is 90 degrees.

The basic mine load is 180 clusters with antipersonnel (PFM, POM), anti-paratrooper (PDM) or antitank mines (PTM).

The maximum length of the minefield being laid with the use of one basic mine load: antipersonnel mines (PFM) – 3,200 meters; antipersonnel mines (POM) – 5,000 meters; antitank mines (PTM) – 600 meters.

The minefields it creates are 15 meters deep and 240 meters wide. Its mine-laying speed is up to 40 km per hour.

The operating crew consists of two people.

The machine has already been nicknamed the “Hell Machine” by the media.

Russia Reveals Two Different Warships to Replace Mistrals

Source : http://sputniknews.com

Russian-made Priboy and Lavina, two amphibious helicopter carriers, will replace the Mistral-class warships that France failed to deliver to Russia.

The Russian Defense Ministry revealed the layout of a new amphibious assault ship during the "Army-2015" military show at a shooting range in Alabino near Moscow earlier this week, Lenta.ru reported.

With its new amphibious warship, known as Priboy ("Surf"), the Defense Ministry plans to replace the Mistral-class helicopter carriers that France failed to deliver to Russia.

For now, the ship is available in the layout form on the stand. Priboy will be a relatively smaller-size (a 14,000-ton, 165 meters in length and 25 meters in width) helicopter carrier capable of transporting 8 helicopters, up to 600 marines and between 40-60 armored vehicles.

Furthermore, later on the Krylov State Research Centre revealed another amphibious helicopter-carrier, codenamed Lavina ("Avalanche").

Lavina will apparently be bigger and faster than French Mistrals. The Russian helicopter carrier will have a full load displacement of 24,000 tons, compared to Mistral's 21,300 tons. Lavina's maximum speed will be 22 knots, as opposed to Mistral's 19 knots. Similar to Mistrals, Lavina will be capable of carrying 16 helicopters, around 50 armored vehicles and possibly six smaller boats, versus Mistral's four, RT reported.

Russia and France signed a $1.3 billion deal for the delivery of two Mistral-class ships in 2011.

The deliveries were put on hold in late 2014 over Moscow's alleged involvement in the Ukrainian civil war. The Kremlin has repeatedly denied these groundless claims and pushed for peace in the war-torn nation.

Russia's new missiles to overcome any type of missile defense systems

Source : http://english.pravda.ru

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russian Armed Forces would receive more than 40 intercontinental ballistic missiles in 2015, Interfax reports.

Putin said at the opening of the international military-technical forum "Army 2015" that the new missiles would be capable of overcoming any, even most technically advanced missile defense systems.

According to the Russian President, Russia "was paying and will be paying special attention to the implementation of a large-scale state program of armaments and modernization of the defense complex."

President Putin also said that Russia would build two new radar hubs. In April, the works on the project were launched in the town of Armavir. The tests of the new radar hub to detect beyond-the-horizon air targets will be conducted in the next coming months.  The hubs will be built both for western and eastern strategic direction.

Meanwhile, the Russian army started receiving first units of armored vehicles on standardized platforms, the combat capabilities of which have no analogues in the world. It goes about such military vehicles as Armata, Kurganets, Boomerang, as well as self-propelled Coalition SV vehicles.

As part of the "Army 2015" military forum, participants discussed prospects of the Russian defense industry, production of new weapons and modernization of the Russian Armed Forces. The Russian president stressed out that by 2020, Russia's military arsenal would be replenished with state-of-the-art models of military hardware.

Noteworthy, Russia's Nevsky Design Bureau has developed a project of a new amphibious assault ship that is said to replace the French Mistrals.

"The versatile amphibious ship by the Nevsky Design Bureau, known as the Priboi project, with a displacement of 14,000 tons, will be able to carry up to eight Ka-52K and Ka-27 helicopters. Its construction is scheduled to begin next year," a source from the defense industry said on conditions of anonymity.

According to the source, the Priboi ship will be armed with Pantsir-M anti-aircraft complex. The vessel will be able to carry up to 500 paratroopers and about 40-60 units of hardware. The ship will be 25 meters wide and 165 meters long.

Pravda.Ru has reported before that Paris refused to deliver two Mistral type helicopter carries to Russia because of political disagreement that appeared as a result of the Ukrainian crisis. The contract is worth 1.2 billion euros. Under the terms of the contract, France will have to pay a penalty in the amount of 10 billion euros. During most recent negotiations, French representatives offered Russia to "forget" about the Mistral ships for 785 million euros.

Russian infantry gear to have friend-or-foe sensors visible only to friendly troops

Source : http://tass.ru/en

KUBINKA /Moscow Region/, June 16. /TASS/. Russia's "soldier of the future" will be wearing individual friend-or-foe sensors constituting an integral part of the high-tech Ratnik combat gear, the general director of the Central Research Institute of Precision Machinebuilding, which developed the system, said on Tuesday.

"There is the ordinary electronic friend-or-foe system: you direct certain instruments at it and receive a response. And there is a system using light-reflecting elements and coloured signs that are visible only to devices operating within a certain part of the spectrum," Dmitry Semizorov told TASS on the sidelines of the Army-2015 forum in the Moscow region. "They will be seen only through our devices."

It is assumed that the soldiers’ friend-or-foe system will be enabled through attaching some kind of sensor on each soldier’s clothing. A soldier can then distinguish between enemy and friendly forces by looking at the screen of a special device similar in appearance to a mobile phone.

Semizorov noted that R&D work was well underway and "as soon as there are stable results," the system would be built into the Ratnik gear set.

The Russian army has already started receiving domestically-designed "future soldier" gear. Up to 50,000 Ratnik sets are expected to be delivered within a year from now, with an eventual increase in deliveries to 70,000 a year.

The new combat gear comprises about 40 components, including individual weapons, aiming and protection systems, as well as communication, navigation, and target acquisition and indication equipment.
